Lafayette Days

In June 1777, 19 year old Marquis de Lafayette joined the seasoned military officer, mentor, and diplomatic anchor Baron de Kalb and set sail for America with a bold vision and an unwavering commitment to liberty. After weeks at sea, they made their first landing in the New World at North Island near Georgetown, South Carolina.

SC250, the Georgetown 250 Committee and the American Friends of Lafayette are proud to be hosting “Lafayette Days” as an immersive experience to honor the beginning of Lafayette’s journey into the annals of American History.

The primary events will include Lafayette’s Colonial Ball; a reenactment of Lafayette and Dekalb’s landing and visit with Major Benjamin Huger and his family; a parade down Front Street; and the unveiling of the refurbished Lafayette bust and highway marker, to which all South Carolina residents, national dignitaries, and world dignitaries are invited.
